FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD

Curiosity landed on mars Aug 6 2012 - 2.83 miles from the base of Mount Sharp

Picture

then proceeded to head east reaching "Snake river" on sol 152

Picture

I often wondered about this why travel for 152 days then double back traversing back passing Shaler for the second time
i was soon to find out why - changing to ground view in Google mars Curiosity did not have full view of the base of Mount Sharp and could only plan a route across to the other side by moving to higher ground where she could see the full expanse from east to South West

Picture

This is where she got her first glimpse of the bridge structure in the South West

Picture

and so began her journey and the discovery of the yellow brick road
I must admit it wasnt me who first found the bridge structure it was Paul goodwin me and paul have had heated arguments in the past and do not see eye to eye on some subjects but i must admit what a great find by Paul.
so i decided to keep my eye on this structure - the sols past and curiosity drew closer and closer and finally we got some clearer images of this structure on sol 410

Picture

with a added bonus of domed structures to the right

Picture
Picture

as you can see this bridge moves up through the hills and up to the top of MT Sharp then on sol 475 we get another view of this domed building -but i did not realize there was a even bigger building attached to this it was only on sol 540 that it could be seen

Picture
Picture

During this time curiositys wheels where starting to suffer from wear and tear (literally) so Nasa decided to plan a safer route traversing through "Dingo Gap"
"Climb To Dingo Gap"--https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF3tDBZzCwU
Curiosity drives down into dingo Gap on sol 538 looking backward she takes this pano only to reveal something strange on the top of the left bank (wall)

Picture
Picture

also lying about at the base of these wall are strange looking rocks but they dont look like normal rocks-they seem as if they are two types of rock? or are they - these look like moulded right angled shapes with what looks like plaster or concrete in the middle of them

Picture

these show up again in front cam shots
(rover moving backwards to save wear on wheels so front cam images are the back view)

Picture

also these images show the flat slabs all in a line

Picture

so what are we looking at-we have the right angled moulded sections on the bottom with 2 layers of slabs in the top- why ? - its the only sensible way of building something flat on a sandy surface

Picture

we do it ourselves on earth so why not on mars

Picture

over time these have been buried leaving only the the top layers visible

Picture

these bottom sections can bee seen in sol 540 but looks like the top slabs have fallen away

Picture

these sections seem to have a buildup of material in the centre as if along the middle there were once structures but over time these have eroded away

Picture

as you can see curiosity is following this constructed road with evenly spaced slabs- where is it leading to? - i say its leading us to the bridge-lets hope its wide enough for curiosity to start climbing Mt Sharp
